Welcome, willkommen, marhaba to the

Summer School Project

Over the last years, optics research has become an indispensable part of daily life. Fiber optics for telecoms, medical imaging and cancer research, optical parts in cars, computer and 3D screens are at the core of the world’s technical infrastructure. Furthermore optical measurement techniques are indispensable for quality and process control in industrial production procedures. The program aims to orientate young female scientists in the dynamic and rapidly evolving field of optics and photonics while providing them with professional development skills and a deeper understanding of what is needed to succeed as a woman scientist. Furthermore, the summer school project wants to achieve a cultural exchange, scientific discussions, collaborative work on new projects and to prepare the participants for future success in both career and academia. It should encourage young women to stay in research after graduation or to start a carrier in a male dominated working field and to discover a fitting balance between family and carrier. For this, a daily program with three main parts are the concept of the project. It includes optic sessions with theoretical and practical lessons, training of career relevant soft skills and round table discussions with successful female scientist.

We wish all partcipants, co-operation partners and lectures a happy new year! And welcome to the International Year of Light!

In 2015 "GET AHEAD WITH OPTICS" will support the summer school "Women in optics: The Castle Meeting" organizied by Professor Dr. Martin Koch from Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany.  The summer school will take place at the castle Rauischholzhausen nearby Marburg from 3.-6. August 2015. We will inform you as soon as possible about the program and where to apply!
